Revised 9/29/98
1. Survey the customer's phone system. You will need 2 or 3 slots at least. You may be adding the following:
a. DID trunk card
b. MF-Register. Price out 4RSTB-911 MF Sender. NEC Part
# 151215. Max of 4 sender cards in the system.
c. Tie or loop start trunk card.
2. Price out hardware, software upgrade if needed (1700 minimum) to customer, as well as LEC charges. Get signature on proposal before proceeding. Add verbage describing what you are going to do and what the customer is responsible for. For example, who is going to verify the location of every phone? You will install and test circuits and verify that the correct station number arrives at the 911 center. Customer? will maintain and update the data base every time a phone is moved, test the Camma trunks on a regular basis?
3. Order at least one DID trunk if DID does not exist in the system. The customer may want to use DID for modems and fax machines at least. If so, order DID trunks as needed. Price out DID trunk cards for the phone system and make sure slots are available for DID plus 2 Camma Trunks (see below).
4. Order DID numbers. IMPORTANT. Keep the numbers in the same prefix. Order extras to plan for growth. All phones must have a DID number for E-911
5. Study NEC's NEAX 2000 Application Note 2000-029. It can be downloaded from the NEC web site, www.cng.nec.com. LCR comment is important.
6. Contact 911etc at 425-334-8289 or email at 911etc@gte.net They have several programs/pricing plans depending on how much work they need to do in terms of data gathering etc. Typically, you will want to make up a spreadsheet and email them the original information and ongoing updates. They can handle 911 software and data base for most LEC's including GTE, Ameritech etc. at much lower costs than Ameritech charges.
7. Order CAMA trunks from local Telco. Find out what format the local Telco uses (loop or tie lines) Make sure you know which 911 center you should connect to. (Small to medium sized towns typically only have one. Large cities may have multiple. If you have a Telco T-1 in place, you may be able to take two channels and convert them to 911 Camma trunks instead of installing 2 trunks that may never be used.
Note: ISDN-PRI switched E-911 option. Instead of purchasing dedicated trunks to the E-911 center, you may be able to send 911 calls out the ISDN-PRI as first choice option and send additional digits (Area Code and Prefix if 4 digit inter-com) or (Area Code and Prefix and one digit) out the PRI if you have 3 digit station number.
We have report of a dealer (BMS) doing it on the 2000 in Canada. It has been done on the 2400 in the U.S. (See NECSI web pages - Technical Section - 2400 stuff) In this case, you may not need: Dedicated Camma trunks, MF Register Sender card, or Camma trunk card. If you do this on the 2000, please write up the steps you did and forward to Steve Autor for inclusion in this web page.
