March 4, 1997 - CTI Show - Los Angeles - Westin Bonaventure
Response: NEC now has Product Marketing Managers. These people will interface with the Product Committees. They are: Key Systems - Doug Williams; PBX - Jim Dunden; CTI-Garland Rozelle; Video - Phil Carter; Data/ATM Richard Leggett. Tom Burger introduced Smokey Sutton who is now a 2000 product manager.
2. Inprotect. Discussion over new Inprotect warranty program. Several suggestions on possible modifications were made.
Response: We will form a committee to meet with NEC and review options in next 60 days.
3. Electra Elite -We would like an update. We need to sell 2000's and Pro's in the interim now that the competition knows we have a new system in the works for 19977. AT&T is telling customers the Pro is going to be replaced in 1997, so don't buy it. Only recourse in that situation is to sell 2000, but out of the price ball park.
Response: NEC announced that the Elite has been postponed until late 1997. Instead, a new smaller 2000SP will be introduced in May at prices comparable to the Pro IIA. With the projected expanded sales of the 2000, FREE 2000 Basic Training classes will be offered in 11 cities in the U.S. for 320 techs during April to June. In addition, sales training classes will be offered to bring your sales staff up to speed on all the new releases planned during the summer of 1997. As the 2000 continues to become more sophisticated, sales training has become even more important to insure that systems are designed and configured properly.
Several other enhancements to the 2000 due this summer should provide the ability to compete in several other markets, such as cold standby CPU and a Remote PIM that functions like a remote DRU, except that local trunks can be connected on a T-1 failure.` Later we will be getting a "Event Based" ISDN BRI CCIS. This will enable CCIS features for systems installed in different towns without paying for a dedicated T-1. Also, customers with offices around the country will be able to have CCIS features on a dial up basis. ISDN BRI trunks will be added to the system in 1700 software so that customers can have quiet lines for modem, fax, video conference, and dial up data via LAN routers.
4. Training committee. The training committee met in December in Dallas and reviewed the results of a survey of NEC dealers. Based on the survey results, both parties agreed that a new program was in order. We hope to finalize the Super Tech program for the NEC 2000 in the next few months. We are proposing that each company train at least one 2000 Super Tech. A 12 day class will teach trouble shooting, advanced software diagnosis, digital trunks and other subjects so that each company has a central point of contact in their own company to help other 2000 techs. This should minimize the techs calling NTAC and waiting for a call back. Super Techs will have a special 800 number to call for assistance. The first tech will be trained for $250 fee (normal tuition is $3600). If the tech does not pass the final test with a 90 percent, the $3600 tuition fee will be charged. In addition, the Super Tech can stay over an additional 3 days at no charge to be certified as a 2000 trainer to train 2000 techs for your company. An annual license fee (currently $1500) will permit dealers to duplicate materials, and issue NEC certification. NEC staff will visit classes taught at the dealers facility to ensure quality control. Dealers may be able to train techs for other dealers with permission from NEC. (Draw up a no-hire agreement for outside techs attending classes at other dealer sites). NEC will keep Super Techs up to date and have a refresher meeting once a year.
5. NEC documentation fixes need to be quicker and on the Internet for downloading. Six month delay on switch settings for CP-03 requires all techs to call NTAC for assistance.
Response: Victor Foia reported that 2400 ETI's are on the Internet and can be downloaded without paying for a fax call. A new program to notify dealers of documentation releases and fixes has started. Dealers with email can get notified of new releases and fixes available. For information, see the Members only section on our home page at www.nadealer.com.
6. Where's the Lotus Notes Internet access so we can learn from other dealers problems?
Response: Victor reported that about 300 tickets are into the database and that dealers will soon be able to search the database for similar problems. Also, dealers will be able to enter trouble tickets into NTAC, update tickets, etc. over the Internet. The system is being beta tested at this time.
7. Credits on new system sales for tech and sales training costs?
Response: Referred to Training committee.
8. Pricing on 2400 MAT software for dealer use? Dealers want to be able to manage multiple sites on one PC.
Response: NEC PBX product manager will get back to us on this.
9. Where is 2000 MAT Windows software?
Response: Smokey Sutton reported that the software is being released this week. Software is licensed for one PC like other 2000 MAT software and will support multiple sites for dealers.
10. AD-16 - VM sales count toward key or PBX or should we order from Active Voice? 2000 sales with NEC single line phones - single line
Response: AD-16 does not count toward either key or PBX. Single line phones sold at NET price do not count towards any objective at this time. Cliff Cozzelino will review and get back to us.
13. Escalation process for technical problems not getting solved.
Response: Escalation process has been published, but staff changes at NEC make it hard for dealers to keep up. We will try to get the information from Frank Viola and post it on the Internet in the Members Only Area.
14. Reimburse dealers for problems in excess of 90 days.
Response: Any long term ongoing problems will be dealt with on an individual basis. No policy exists.
15. CTI software demos - where? Phonemax from Active Voice is the only one that works?
Answer: Demos will be available when software is stable.
16. Dterm III phones ordered with 2000 don't count towards 2000 objectives? Response: Cliff Cozzelino will investigate and get back to us.
17. Floor planning for new products such as video conference?
Response: Still under investigation.
18. NEC to get video conference units in regions so we can dial in for demos?
Response: in progress.
19. Program for NEC only dealers? Lots of dealers getting surveyed on the industry status. Lucent actively seeking distributors. Response: Still being looked at.
