Update on Business Partners

Partners to date: Datacomm Warranty, Federal Telecom, NEC Leasing, NEC America

Info-hold is Fusion Certified providing customized on-hold messages. NECSI will get $10 for every unit sold. Steve moved to accept Info-Hold as a business partner. Motion passed.

Discussion regarding allowing organizations to advertise in Crosstalk at higher rates and percentage going to NECSI. Non partners will pay higher rate. Web links shall be limited to partners.

Steve moved to approve NEC Leasing as NECSI Business Partner. Motion passed.

NEAX User Group - Discussion regarding need for formal representation by NECSI at User Group. Banner and Table. Phil moved in favor of formal NECSI representation at User Group. Motion passed. Bobby Horton will handle the technical details of booth: idea to have banner with NECSI Map of dealers as backdrop. Use the tag line, " NECSI…your DIRECT connection to NEC products".

Update on Dealer Contract issues - NEC emailed contract to Maureen before sending it out. No feedback from Membership, therefore no action.

Cliff Cozzolino will address this at the NEC/NECSI Meeting on Monday, July 26

Council Elections (status of nominations)

Mark and Maureen are running for re-election. Notice was sent out from RCR and published in Crosstalk.

Council Resignation: Mike Ellis regrets to resign due to business commitments. Mike suggested Charlie Eicher to complete Mike’s term. Approved by Council and Charlie will attend the Fall Meeting.

E-commerce for Key System sales - Steve

Multiple Location on Web Site with prices. Question of whether national accounts pricing should be posted on web site. Be specific about what is/is not included. This program may be related to National Account Program discussion with NEC on Monday. Phil moves to table this discussion pending further information to be brought to the next Council meeting. Motion passed.

5. Interconnect buy-outs and mergers impact on NECSI

Greg showed NEC Yellow Pages advertising for 1997 and 1998 and noted that NEC has inserted BNS in front of authorized dealer listing.

Phil informed Council that a full page ad ran in the Chicago Tribune and took particular offense that NEC directly solicited NEC users for Maintenance services. Discuss with NEC on July 26^th.

6. Committee Reports

Marketing Committee – Mark

Continued strategy to communicate the benefit of being a NECSI member. Will work on the User Group booth.

Motion by Steve: NECSI members must be NECSI Business Partners in order to market products and services via email broadcast to NECSI Membership. Motion passed.

Multi-Location Committee - Steve

Addressed earlier in e-commerce discussion.

Membership Committee - Mark

Latest count is 152 up from 135 last year. Dues renewal letter goes out in November this year. Benefit statement letter has been effective and RCR follow-up has improved Membership. RCR is getting notification from NEC on dealer status. Vito moves an introductory offer again this year to dealers who have never been members for the balance of 1999 at $100 US ($145 Canadian). Motion passed.

Technical Training Committee – Mark, Phil

Meeting with Bob Tavis on Monday after NEC Meeting. Phil states that the NEC T&E rate is now $250/calendar day. This is wrong. NEC billed a dealer for a Remote PIM that did not turn up on a weekend cutover and stated that it wasn’t a failure. Mark has asked Bob Tavis to provide a searchable directory (table of contents and where to go to get more details on an item).

Recruiting Program Committee - Maureen, Steve

Still following model as outlined on Members Only page. Lincoln Trail students are aware that they will re-locate upon completing the 2-year program in Telephone Technology. NEC and NECSI dealer sponsored programs are now in 6 technical/junior colleges in the US and Canada. The next step is to get into more schools. Dealers can get demo pricing for equipment and a tax receipt for donation to the school. Phil emphasizes that computer technology background is increasingly important. General consensus is that VOLARE training is not necessarily cost effective and that we should be considering more cost-effective means of training.

NEAX 2400 Committee – Mike Ellis

NEAX 2000 Committee – Greg

• NT certification is not necessarily a one-day certification for NEAX 2000 certified technician. Also CBT training will be available. We need to ensure what the training will cover. Council disagrees that NT certification is not necessary--it is.
• NEC’s bundling of call accounting software- not profitable to dealers.
• LOST SALES reports continue to be vital to NEC. Application Selling needs to be emphasized. This has to be more detailed than a Power Point that simply lists new features.
• NEAX 2000 survey urgently needed – Greg stated that with changes forthcoming a survey is not deemed critical at this time.

Key System Committee – Ron

Key System Survey Results were presented. Response was excellent. Will be discussed at NEC meeting on Monday and published in September Crosstalk.

Results of Key System Survey

CTI Issues: software compatibility labeling, cost to dealers when software is opened and installation doesn’t work with current version of Windows; TAPI adapters that don’t work with current versions of Windows (i.e. Win98); increased risk of losing six-figure sales on a single piece of software that doesn’t work

Software Compatibility for Technician Laptops - MAT software for some systems requires Windows 98 while other software will not run under Windows 98 (or some software runs on 486 but not on Pentium and vice-versa). End result is that every technician requires 2 laptops. This is nuts and needs to be straightened out ASAP.

Platinum Program Update

Maureen suggests Council continue with the procedure of supplying the NECSI Agenda to NECAM a few weeks beforehand so that they have time to address each issue and respond to us effectively. Council agreed.
