Avaya MultiVantage™ Software

 

Avaya MultiVantage software is the next generation of Avaya voice application software, giving customers all the feature/functionality of traditional business phone systems on an IP converged network.  It provides rich capabilities for circuit-switched and ATM communications as well as for IP, and will run on customers’ existing Avaya DEFINITY® Enterprise Communication Servers, and on the new Avaya Media Servers and Gateways, providing investment protection through interoperability with most existing infrastructure.  

 

Avaya MultiVantage Software is a global software offering; it is the same software in the United States and throughout the world.  The software allows support for multiple digital trunk interfaces including E1, T1, PRI, BRI and multiple analog interfaces.  Avaya MultiVantage provides user and system management functionality, intelligent call routing, application integration and extensibility, and Enterprise Communications networking.

 

Avaya MultiVantage software builds on the world-class security features of the Avaya Call Processing Software.  Real-time media encryption from Avaya works with Avaya MultiVantage to provide a secure solution for environments where enhanced voice privacy over a LAN/WAN is required.  This allows customers to apply the appropriate level of information privacy to sensitive communications and information.

 

The software delivers increased performance and system capacity:

Avaya™ Media Servers

 

Avaya Media Servers (internal and external options) are Internet Protocol (IP) Telephony servers that put voice applications on the customer’s LAN.  They provide open platform computing and centralized Enterprise Class call telephony processing that may be distributed across a multi-protocol network including IP, ATM and TDM, to support a highly diversified network architecture for a variety of customer communications network configurations, i.e. Campus, Multi-Site, Branch (networked or distributed), Remote, Small and Home Offices.  This next generation architecture will use Ethernet NICs for connections to the Port Network for control; the duplicated server (when using the S8700); the LAN for adjunct and administrative access; and Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) monitoring.  It also includes removable storage for backup for system and customer feature translations; a USB port for connection to modems for remote access and alarming (maintenance alerts); LEDs for local server state indication; a reset button; a disk drive; Time of Day and timer clock; ECC memory controller; hardware watchdog timer; environmental monitors; reflective memory; BIOS automatic reboot; and SMBIOS compatibility for POST logging and asset identification.  Multiple server options are available in integrated and stand-alone configurations that provide redundancy and survivability   Servers based on Linux® and Windows® operating systems interwork with traditional, proprietary infrastructure based on the UNIX®. 

New Media Servers:

 

The Avaya S8100 Media Server is a server blade for small to mid-size customers, and for branch offices and work groups.  It contains a Pentium®  processor running Windows® 2000 Server.  Used with the Avaya™ G600 Media Gateway, the S8100 provides up to 450 analog, digital and IP station ports and up to 300 trunks (maximum of 618 stations and trunks), a 20GB Hard Drive, 256 MB of RAM and built-in Avaya INTUITY™ AUDIX® Multimedia Messaging. 

 

 

 

 

 

The Avaya S8300 Media Server is a Linux®  server for a single site or remote office with 10 to 450 users.  It supports up to 450 stations and 450 trunks per system (IP and/or TDM), and provides up to 50,000 Busy Hour Call Completions (BHCC). 

 

The Avaya™ Local Survival Processor software  works with a redundant, survivable processor in the Avaya G700 Media Gateway to provide full Avaya MultiVantage™ Software features when in “survivable” mode.

The Avaya™ S8700 Media Server is a true duplicated (fault tolerant) call telephony server complex running on a Linux O/S.    The Media Server fits in a 19” data rack. 

 

It is offered in two configurations:

 

·         When paired with the G600 Media Gateway, it supports up to 64 Port Networks with up to four G600 Media Gateways per Port Network, and can support up to 12,000 IP stations and up to 4,000 digital/analog stations or trunks. 

 

·         When paired with the MCC1 Media Gateway (formerly the Avaya DEFINITY® MultiCarrier Cabinet) or the SCC1 Media Gateway (formerly the DEFINITY Single Carrier Cabinet), it supports up to 44 Port Networks in a center stage switch environment or 64 Port Networks in an ATM environment. 

 

·         When paired with the MCC1 or SCC1, the S8700 is available in Standard, High and Critical Reliability versions. The S8700 scales up to 36,000 total stations (12,000 of the total can be IP stations, 36,000 can be analog/digital), and provides up to 300,000 BHCC.  MCC1, SCC1 and G700 gateways can be mixed when used with the S8700 server.

Avaya™ Media Gateways

 

Avaya Media Gateways support both bearer (voice) and signaling traffic routed between packet-switched and circuit-switched networks, and the conversion of both.  They are

stackable, modular, configurable components that support optional form factors (2u/7u, 19” rack-mount/free-standing).  The Avaya Media Gateway, when coupled with an Avaya™ Media Server running MultiVantage™ Software, provides the complete DEFINITYÒ Feature Set, with all 525+ telephony features, full support of Q-Sig and DCS, and full networking interoperability with all DEFINITY platforms.  It supports all DEFINITY applications and adjuncts, including Call Center, CRM, CTI, Messaging, Mobility, Remote Worker/Office, Road Warrior and Voice Terminals.  It is interoperable with H.323, H.248 and Q-Sig Standards-Based LAN/WAN Data Networks, and is optimized for Enterprise Class Telephony and Distributed Networking.

The IPSI, C-LAN and IP Media Processor platform components are designed for compliance with established (and emerging) standards of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).  Adherence to standards allows interworking with a wide range of data and networking infrastructures.  Software-based flexibility permits continued compliance as IP standards evolve.  World-class data networking solutions can be integrated (or converged) with the world-class voice networking solutions provided by the Avaya ECLIPS platform.

Avaya incorporates state-of-the-art technology in its handling of audio streams over IP.  The specifics of how audio streams are packaged and sent over IP are completely driven by the standards.  Avaya MultiVantage software provides users with a full-featured communication system and call control on a dynamic call-by-call basis, enabling efficient use of network bandwidth and server resources.

The Avaya™ G600 Media Gateway is optimized for large, mixed IP and Digital networks and distributed systems.  It is a chassis-based, 19” rack mountable, 7u form factor design that takes blades.  The S8700/G600 can be configured for up to 64 port networks with each port network supporting up to four G600 gateways.

 

 

The Avaya G700  Media Gateway can support up to 450 stations and 450 trunks when equipped with the Media Server S8300 (capacities are a function of the Server, not the Gateway).  It has four media module bays, two 10/100 BaseT Ethernet ports, an 8-pin RS-232 for local administration, an Expansion Module Bay and an Octaplane Module Interface.  This stackable, 19” rack mountable, 2u form factor design can be configured as a Stand-alone Gateway or a Survivable Expansion Port Network (when equipped with the S8300 server blade) for Distributed Networking.

Avaya VisAbility™ Management Suite (continued)

 

For Network Management, Avaya VisAbility Management Suite simplifies the complex task of managing enterprise switched networks.  It provides network-wide management of Avaya’s MultiService networking switches; policy management to help you create business-driven networks that stipulate which type of traffic or group of users has priority; and a new voice over Internet protocol (VoIP) monitoring manager application that gives you the ability to monitor your VoIP network quality.   Leveraging the tight Avaya  MultiVantage and IP telephone relationship provides a standards-based QoS implementation. 

 

 

The standards used are Differentiated Services (DiffServ) (layer 3) and 802.1p/Q (layer 2) in addition to UDP port prioritization.  DiffServ defines bit settings in the TOS bits in the IP header, which identifies packets as being associated with a specific type of service.  IEEE 802.1p and 802.1Q define bit markings of the Ethernet packet header, which are used to prioritize packets at layer across the LAN.  The DiffServ settings and the 802.1p/Q markings are administered on both the Media Gateway and the IP Phones.  Avaya’s IP Telephones also enhance voice quality through a dynamic jitter buffer and enhanced full-duplex speakerphone with echo cancellation. 

 

Avaya VisAbility Management Suite components include:

 

·         Avaya MultiVantage™ Fault & Performance Manager:  Fault Management will display a hierarchical view of devices and their status allowing users to view and isolate alarms and errors.  Performance Management provides a comprehensive set of performance reports for trending and isolation of performance issues.  Data can be viewed in either graphical or text format.

Avaya is committed to providing innovative new products that support the needs of customers, from desktop digital telephones to full mobility solutions.  New and updated products include the following:

 

The AvayaIP Softphone offers a full compliment of station features and impressive voice quality over IP for this important product segment of mobility and PC based applications.  A new release (R3V2) was made available in January with added features such as Automatic Gain Control, E911 MAC address support, enhanced user interfaces, and a speed dial dialog box.

 

A second release providing a user interface in eight languages plus English will be available in April 2002 to support the global market.  Additional features will be provided such as editable button labels, an enhanced LDAP client, and WindowsÒ XP support.

 

List prices will range from $200 - $325 per seat depending on the number of licenses purchased.

 

The new Avaya IP Softphone for Pocket PC puts the full functionality of a digital telephone in the palm of your hand.  This new capability, offered as part of the IP Softphone, provides mobility for all Avaya enterprise customers, by converging VoIP, Pocket PC, Wireless LAN, and telephony technologies into a simplified and seamless mobility solution.

  The IP Softphone for Pocket PC enables connectivity to the full suite of MultiVantage call processing features from a WindowsÒ CE-based handheld device, using an 802.11 Wireless LAN connection to the network.  Pocket PC capability will be provisioned in a similar method to the PC based IP Softphone, with the software loaded on the PDA.  This -offering won the Best of Show Award at the PlanetPDA trade show in December 2001 and is available in April 2002.

 

Avaya Softconsole™ software is a newly designed software attendant console that builds on the features of the popular Avaya™ 302 Attendant Console.  With its new ability to search internal and external directories, place a caller’s e-mail address into your e-mail application, and display detailed caller information on up to six calls simultaneously, Softconsole helps improve attendant productivity and customer service.   Avaya Softconsole employs Console Operations, Configuration Manager and MasterDirectoryä Data Manager to improve the user experience through a new interface, comprehensive setup wizards, e-mail integration and enhanced directory capabilities.  Available in March 2002, Softconsole can be used as either a DCP or IP endpoint. 

 

The Avaya Softconsole is Windows® NT/2000/XP based, supports standards-based integration of applications to deliver enhanced functionality; and helps you do more with fewer resources.  Its connectivity to the Avaya DEFINITY® system can be either IP or DCP.  For DCP connectivity, the attendant’s PC will connect into an Avaya Callmaster® VI.  IP connectivity is the same as the Avaya IP Softphone.  The attendant’s headset can either plug into the PC sound card to take advantage of true VoIP Roadwarrior single connect mode, or the attendant can use a separate telephone if using the Telecommuter dual connect mode.

Avaya INTUITY™ AUDIX® LX MultiMedia Messaging Server

 

INTUITY AUDIX® LX Release 1.0 is Avaya’s newest low-end offer for enterprise voice, e-mail and fax messaging.  Based on the software for INTUITY AUDIX R5.1, the LX is written in the language of the Linux® operating system, which means it can run on industry-standard PC hardware.  This both reduces the total cost of ownership and makes it more flexible and modular.  The INTUITY AUDIX LX can integrate with close to 100 different switches.  It also offers multi-location customers the possibility to standardize their messaging platform on the LX, regardless of the type of communication systems they have.

 

The INTUITY AUDIX LX includes the current release of Avaya Message Manager and supports Web messaging.  Systems include ports, seats and features.  Avaya can activate additional system resources remotely as purchased.  The system uses SMTP for Internet messaging.  LX will integrate via Avaya-proprietary software, in-band (mode code), RS232 interfaces and C-LAN. 

 

The LX will use industry-standard PC technology with a maximum of three slots.  It will therefore provide “standard” availability equivalent to those of the standard industry PCs.  It will support a maximum of 12 voice/fax ports having 3 tip/ring analog boards with 4 ports each.  In addition it will support two serial ports – one for the required external modems and the other available for serial switch integration; one parallel port; two USB ports; and one 10/100 Ethernet port. 

 

Any of the following languages is available at no extra charge at the time of installation: Arabic, Dutch, US English, Australian English, British English, Singapore English, German, Mandarin, Norwegian, Castilian Spanish, Latin American Spanish, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Slovak, Swedish, Turkish.  The system provides text-to-speech capability in US English only. 

 

System management is by visual interface only via local connection or remotely at the speed of up to 56 Kbps.  Authorized service personnel may access the system remotely via an external 56 Kbps modem.  System backup and restore will be provided using the Read/Write CD, which will include all administered data: announcements, recorded names, greetings and approximately 50 hours of messages.  ADAP (AUDIX Data Acquisition Package) is included; Avaya Mailbox Manager™ is optional.
