The console comes defaulted so that the handset did not work properly when plugged into HS0. One way talk path only. To get the handset working, you need to get into program mode in the console.
There is new (as of Nov. 1998) flash rom that you can download from the NEC web site to enable off-hook ring for the console. It's not too hard to do. You also need a chip kit for the console card (CS-33) to get off-hook ring working.
1. Use AC power supply if possible so you can disconnect power to the console.
2. Unplug power to the console.
3. Hold down L3 + L6 the reconnect power while holding both buttons down.
4. Screen will show a config menu.
5. Press 1 for headset/handset
6. Press 2 for handset
7. Depress SRC to go back to the main menu
8. Press Answer to UPDATE.
Note the 10 station BLF option can be turned on here too. WARNING. The BLF for stations works as follows: You dial the first 2-3 digits of the station number. The last digit lights up in the KEY PAD.
Also, be aware that when you wire the SN-716 from the 2400, the voltage diagrams in the manuals are backwards.
